Server Central is looking for additional staff for our Chicago datacenter. If you’re good with FreeBSD, Linux, can tolerate Windows, and enjoy troubleshooting Intel hardware, this job is for you. We are a 24/7 shop. Searching for 3rd shift employees (11pm-7am). Also have spots to fill on 1st (7am-3pm) shift. 3rd shift gets 10% pay differential.

Note: If you do not have a strong Linux/BSD background, please do not apply.

Hourly rate commensurate with experience: competitive pay, perks, and benefits.

Server Central Network in Chicago, IL is seeking Datacenter Technicians

Duty/Responsibility:
1. Interface with customers and vendors
2. Answer phones and provide quality support
3. Perform server and network troubleshooting
4. End-to-end trouble ticket handling, troubleshooting, and resolution
5. Network event tracking/notification
6. Configure and Install equipment for service orders

Minimum Requirements:
1. Strong experience in troubleshooting/fault isolation, teamwork, and multitasking
2. Minimum of 3 years experience, preferably in a datacenter or tech support environment
3. Strong understanding of Unix-based operating systems (FreeBSD, Linux)
4. Willing to work any shift as needed (24x7 operation) (including weekends and holidays)
5. Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
6. Demonstrated willingness to learn, teach, and share knowledge
7. Ability to lift 60-70 lbs.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
1. FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows networking, operation and troubleshooting
2. Physical configuration and maintenance/troubleshooting of x86 hardware
3. Ethernet cabling, crimping and testing

Intermediate understanding of networking and internet protocols:
1. Ethernet Switches
2. IP Addressing (CIDR/Netmasks)
3. DNS (basic dns/bind troubleshooting)
4. HTTP (basic apache troubleshooting)
5. SMTP (basic sendmail/qmail/postfix troubleshooting)

Note: This position has a 30 day initial probationary period.
