The Safety and Security Systems Group, based in University Park, IL is a division of Federal Signal Corporation, a $1.2B company. This division designs and manufactures a suite of products and integrated solutions for municipal, governmental and industrial customers.

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team in University Park, Illinois.

Typical duties for this position would include:

•Design detailed models, mechanisms and/or adaptations for a complex line of products following direction and suggestions from his/her supervisor or others.
•Prepare working layout drawings in conjunction with engineers after consideration of stresses, material types, loading, testing, manufacturing, etc.
•Change designs and make alterations when in process to facilitate manufacturing, with supervision.
•Perform complex activities with the Engineering Change system.
•Lay out, build, and test complex mechanical models and mechanisms to verify conformance to design specifications under direction of Engineers.
•Interface with others to create prototype parts for the above.
•Follow-up with Engineering and performs basic analysis on test results and documents lab test data.
•Work with outside test labs for product certification.
•Review CAD drafter work for design conformance.
•Prepare rough sketches and directs CAD drafters.

Requirements for this position include:

•Associates in Applied Science (AAS) Degree.
•5 or more years of related designer experience.
•AutoCad and Solidworks experience.
•2 or more years experience creating as-built drawings for electrical fire alarm and security systems.
