Job Description: MWH's Natural Resources, Infrastructure & Industry (NRII) operation is seeking qualified candidates for a Lead/Supervisor level Structural Engineer position preferably based in our Chicago, IL office, in support of our global hydropower and water resource projects. ** We will consider someone based in another location for the right candidate. Must be willing to travel up to 3 months per year in short term assignments of 3-4 weeks The position requires experience in major civil works, with emphasis on concrete dams, powerhouses, pumping stations, underground works, lock design experience a plus.In addition to normal structural engineering requirements, the individual should have experience in structural design of underground features and components including tunnel and shaft linings, and should be able to provide senior technical QA/QC of structural designs related to heavy civil, water resource, hydropower, dam, navigation lock, and underground structures. In this position, the applicant will independently perform assignments and lead a small team of engineers in the selection, evaluation and application of structural engineering principles and techniques on reinforced concrete and structural steel systems primarily, but also aluminum, masonry, timber, and other materials. In addition, the applicant will have to collaborate with other technical professionals on project teams and may serve as Lead Engineer, Project Engineer, or even Project Manager on smaller projects. This will include estimation and management of budgets and schedules, review of invoices, participation in proposal work, and the development and nurturing of client relationships. In addition: 1. Applicant will assist technical staff in field activities including site inspections, shop inspections, monitoring and other fieldwork. 2. Applicant may receive OSHA training for confined space entry to assist with tunnel inspections. 3. Travel will be required. 4. Candidate shall possess strong computer skills, strong writing and communication skills and shall work well in a team environment. Experience Required: BS in Structural Engineering or applicable field at a minimum. MS and SE preferred. Experience (15 + years) and professional registration (PE) (SE).
